The media is packed with the debate of which is the best smartphone camera. On one corner we have the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, the contender with the most amount of hardware in smartphone photography. On the other corner we have the Google Pixel 3 XL, the contender claimed to be the best at software. And obviously the camera needs the phone to power the show, so it’s time for yet another tough comparison. I’m Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and this is Huawei Mate 20 Pro vs Google Pixel 3 XL.

  1. Would like to have seen how fast the cameras are. You know, from off to first shots and also would of liked it if you could told us in this video, how hot do they get while using WhatsApp and tick-tock… my Google pixel XL gets warm enough to be uncomfortable after 20 minutes of conversation or 15-20 minutes of watching tick-tock videos. Thanks

  2. Hi, I'm an interesting in purchasing a Huawei Mate 20 Pro. However, there are tons of sellers that sell this device, and I don't really trust them all. Can you direct me to the right seller to purchase a Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Thank you in advance.

  3. I am extremely shocked by this test. how is it possible? how is it possible that you support Huawei? the photos are faked it's not possible ….! google pixel is well above the mate 20 pro! google pixel software processing was voted the best! do you know how to take pictures ??? Mate 20 pro has a big battery, and then ??? just activate the battery saver of google pixel simply, it is an easy day !! stop with the 3 sensor that is useless the 40 megapixel are unusable alone! the only sensor that works properly is the 10 megapixel huawei, while google pixel has one and it is better by far, !! stop with your test that does not prove anything! make your own proof yourself and you will see !!!

  4. The Mate 20 looks better, a little. That being said I would go for the Pixel for the main reason that Huawei has allegedly been using hidden hardware in their phones for the Chinese Gov to spy on other countries. The company I worked for in the US had all of the Huawei gear seized from the warehouse that was to be used for network deployment, for this very reason. So no way would I buy anything from that company.

  5. Whatever any youtuber viewer would say, which is sure that I will never regret the Mate 20 Pro it's just more than enough Huawei is the only brand that made me get out from the Apple obsession disease

  7. Why is always everyone fighting with each other wich phone is better technology is the best be glad with what phone you have cause 20 years earlier people could not even dreame about all the phones of now every phone has a unique point why that phone is good every phone has a feature that is better then others (sorry for my bad english i am from the Netherlands)

  8. Both are fantastic phone. Mate 20 Pro has excellent battery life. But can’t switch my Pixel 3XL.. Pixel 3 XL has awesome unbeatable camera. Only who wants good camera phone go for pixel 3XL

  9. I agree that the Mate 20 pro is a better phone in most categories but the camera is better on the Pixel 3 XL. I'm testing it now, for me own puny channel, and am really blown away. I'm not a big fan of the latest Google software (plain Jane) but do prefer it better than MiUi. The issue I have with the latest Google offerings is that they are trying to be like IOS and forgot about their roots. Great video as always.

  10. I changed my note 9 with mate 20 pro and the Mate 20 pro is fantastic good battery , video and the photos are amazing but the selfie camera is so so .I Prefer one plus 6t selfie camera is very great . So I recommend mate 20 pro with these app nova lautcher and for amazing photo: Snapseed 🙂

  11. I've had both, and the iPhone XS Max in the last two months. For me the beautify mode, even on the lowest setting was too brutal on the Mate 20 Pro, beautiful landscapes but so so people photos where it was too aggressive. The iPhone (which I had after the Mate 20 Pro) had a great camera, flesh tones were a little saturated but video was superb and photos generally were great, landscape and people photos. The Pixel 3 XL that I have now is more natural with no effort. I take a photo of a person it looks great without worry about beautify or saturation. I take a photo of a landscape, it looks great again, though the Mate 20 Pro is better at that mode, but again I don't have to put in any effort. The iPhone wins in Video, every time, but iOS is boring, sorry but it is and I used to love it. For me, its whichever takes the photos that appeal to the specific buyer of the phone, for me thats the Pixel 3 XL but no-one could be disappointed with any of the three phones in terms of Camera. Also, if I want to enhance a photo, I do it in Lightroom or Photoshop, I don't need the camera to do it for me, just take a good photo. Oh and one other thing, the notch on the Mate 20 Pro is worse than the Pixel 3 XL, it is thinner yes, but much longer and it kills the notification area in terms of icon capacity. 🙂

  13. I have both one month ago..but now I just have Pixel 3 xl…the camera on pixel just living my expectation, best point and shoot camera better than mate 20 pro.
But the battery on mate 20 pro just amazing…on my personal experience, I prefer pixel 3 xl for the camera but for another feature except the camera go for Mate 20…cheers

  14. What can phone audio do. If I want audio then I better go and push the button of my Home Theatre. Face ID is better than wide selfie. I can't remember the last time I open my phone's front camera for selfie. These talks makes Google bring these useless chins all the time

  15. I own the Mate 20 pro. Just a little over 2 months and I do love it…. I do push it to the limit so the battery do get some heavy usage. I would charge it once a day and I can get through the day without charging.

  16. I'd agree to disagree when you say software isn't everything. It's pretty much the most used thing on a phone.
I'm a OnePlus user and have used a Samsung or even Apple for that matter. I've had a go with Huawei, HTC, LG etc as well but the Oxygen OS trumps all (strictly in my opinion and people are free to have theirs) and it is possibly the best way to experience android this side of Google's purest iteration. It makes the phone more hassle free and easy to use. Everyday shortcuts, nifty features all tucked under a simplistic veneer of functionality without a sense of overbearing. The Oxygen OS just works whereas others try to push a lot of their bloat which is not worth the struggle on a day to day basis.
I'm not trying to compare the phones, but the software is something which doesn't make me want to switch to other phones.

  17. I think Google really needs to up their game in hardware. They have excellent software no doubt about it,however they need to realise the balancing of the phone's costs between the hardware & software. Their hardware just isn't as good or innovative enough to challenge other OEMs. For the premium price they charge, they could easily give more RAM , extra storage, better display, a more functional design & extra better lenses for the camera. This way the exquisite software will be an icing on the cake . They just don't realise that they don't have a cake yet…

  18. So, we should trust your review when you wear an… Apple Watch? 🙂 It's really really too much. You are explain us wich Android flagship it's better wearing a silly and useless piece of garbage from Apple. lol Stick with iPhone reviews if you love so much that watch. And we know what do you have in your "backpack"… an iPhone or maybe two of them. It's OK. Just don't explain us wich Android is better and why… doesn't make sense. Maybe tell us what new and brave games we can find on Apple Store. Because, anyway, that's all you can get from Apple. Or some tricks about "setting" your iPhone, "customizing" iOS.. you know, things like this. PS: don't forget about "the best camera". Again, it's on iPhone, right? 😉

  19. Huawei/Mate has been notorious for it's camera. But well, it's not thaat WOW. Pixel camera is more stable, pictures of people/skin on the Huawei looks awful. Huawei selfie cam is trash. Huawei phones are "good" for its cameras, the rest is not good. Samsung, Pixel, Apple are better.
